PENTAX Medical INSPIRA and EndoManager® EMS
The PENTAX Medical INSPIRA (EPK-i8020c) sends stills and video straight to EndoManager EMS by DICOM, so no capture PC is needed in the room. Patients come from the DICOM worklist. EMS accepts video over DICOM in MPEG-4 format only. EM4 isn't needed. Some sites add an EndoManager EM4 capture station anyway so every room works the same way.
| Feature | DICOM direct to EMS | EM4 capture station (optional) |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | Network: DICOM Modality Worklist + C-Store | Video cable + camera trigger |
| Capture PC in the room | No | Yes (EM4) |
| Still images | Yes | Yes |
| Video | Yes | Yes |
| Control | None | Basic camera trigger cable into EM4 |
| Capture triggered from the scope | No | Yes, through EM4 |
| Patient details sent to the processor | No | No |
| Scope serial number detection | No | No |
The DICOM path needs Pentax's OS-123 DICOM option on the processor.
On the DICOM path, no EM4 and no trigger are used. If you choose EM4 for the INSPIRA room, a basic camera trigger cable fires captures into EM4. Some sites do this for consistency: for example, a site with three Olympus EVIS X1 rooms, which need EM4, may put EM4 in its INSPIRA room too, so staff get the same experience in every room.
What's not supported
- Patient name or demographics sent to the processor
- Scope serial number detection
Where images go
EMS forwards images to your EHR, a PACS or VNA, or Epic Gallery. For Epic organizations, images go to the Lumens procedure note. Epic integration
Frequently asked questions
Does the INSPIRA need a capture PC?
No. It sends stills and video to EndoManager EMS by DICOM. EM4 is optional.
What video format does EndoManager accept over DICOM?
MPEG-4 only.
Why add an EM4 capture station?
For consistency. Sites that already run EM4 in other rooms, such as Olympus EVIS X1 rooms, may add it to the INSPIRA room so staff use the same workflow everywhere. A basic camera trigger cable then fires captures into EM4. It doesn't add scope detection or send the patient's name to the processor.
