Scope and processor compatibility
If it produces a visible-light image and has a video output, EndoManager® can capture it. Newer processors that support DICOM can send images straight to EndoManager EMS. Everything else connects through an EM4 capture station. Supported processors get full RS232 control; other devices use a camera trigger or a foot pedal. Mixed fleets are normal: you can connect any number of devices, from any brand, to one EMS.
Three ways to connect
| Path | How | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| DICOM direct to EMS | Network: DICOM Modality Worklist + C-Store | Patient from the worklist, stills to EMS, no capture PC in the room |
| EM4 with bi-directional control | Video cable + RS232 to the processor | Stills and MPEG-4 video, demographics to the processor, scope serial detection, triggers from the scope |
| EM4 with trigger or foot pedal | Video cable + camera trigger or foot pedal | Stills and MPEG-4 video from any visible-light device with a video output |
By specialty
- GI video processors: Fujifilm ELUXEO and EPX, Olympus EVIS X1 / EXERA, PENTAX Medical INSPIRA and OPTIVISTA, among others. Current models can use DICOM direct or EM4 (one path per room; for example the ELUXEO 8000 offers both options).
- Pulmonary: bronchoscopy on GI processors, plus systems such as the Olympus DVM-B2, which sends stills by DICOM (recording video needs an EM4 capture station).
- ENT and laryngoscopy: Karl Storz, Olympus VISERA, Inventis and others, through EM4.
- Speech pathology (FEES and stroboscopy): ATMOS, PENTAX Medical and XION stroboscopy systems, through EM4.
- Urology: flexible cystoscopes and single-use ureteroscopes, through EM4.
- Single-use scopes: Ambu and Boston Scientific systems.
- Surgical and OR cameras: Karl Storz, Olympus, Richard Wolf and Stryker camera platforms, through EM4.
- Ultrasound / EUS: captured through the host processor.
Frequently asked questions
Does EndoManager work with mixed scope brands?
Yes. Any number of devices, from any brand, can feed one EMS.
Do I need a capture PC in every room?
No. Rooms whose processor sends stills by DICOM don't need one. For most devices, video recording uses EM4; some devices, such as PENTAX INSPIRA and Ambu, can send MPEG-4 video directly by DICOM. Choose EM4 where the equipment can't send DICOM, or where you want RS232 control.
What if my device isn't listed?
If it produces a visible-light image and has a video output, EM4 can capture it with a foot pedal, or the camera's trigger where available. Ask us to confirm.
