EndoManager® 4 HD stills and video at the tower, from any scope brand
EndoManager 4 (EM4) is NewCura's image capture client. It runs on a capture computer at the tower and records HD still images and MPEG-4 video from any visible-light scope or camera with a video output. EM4 sends what it captures to EndoManager EMS, or straight to your PACS, VNA or Epic Gallery. You can buy it on its own. EM4 is image capture only; for report writing, see Report Writer (EM3).

What EM4 does
- Captures stills and video. HD still images and MPEG-4 video, recorded from the processor's video output.
- Talks to supported processors. On supported video processors, EM4 connects over a bi-directional RS232 link. It sends patient demographics to the processor, detects the scope's serial number, and takes capture triggers from the scope buttons.
- Works with everything else too. Any visible-light device with a video output can be captured, using a foot pedal to trigger stills and video, or the camera's own trigger where one is available.
- Sends images where you need them. Into EMS for storage, viewing and routing to the EHR, or straight to a PACS, a VNA or Epic Gallery.
- Runs standalone. If you already have an archive and just need capture in the room, EM4 works without the EMS server.
How it connects at the tower
| Connection | What you get | Typical equipment |
|---|---|---|
| Video cable + bi-directional RS232 | Capture plus demographics to the processor, scope serial detection, and triggers from the scope | Supported GI video processors from Fujifilm, Olympus and PENTAX Medical |
| Video cable + basic camera trigger | Capture, triggered from the scope or camera | Processors with a trigger output but no full control link |
| Video cable + foot pedal | Capture, triggered by the foot pedal (or the camera's trigger where available) | Any visible-light device with a video output: ENT and stroboscopy, urology, OR cameras, single-use scopes |
The exact level for each model is in the equipment list. Compatibility depends on equipment model, software version and site configuration; your NewCura team confirms every room before quoting.
EM4 or DICOM direct?
Some newer processors can take a DICOM worklist and send still images straight to EMS, with no capture PC in the room. For most devices, video recording uses EM4; some devices, such as PENTAX INSPIRA and Ambu, can send MPEG-4 video directly by DICOM. Choose EM4 when the equipment can't send DICOM, or when you want demographics and scope serial numbers exchanged with the processor. Many sites mix both, room by room.

Frequently asked questions
What is EndoManager 4 (EM4)?
EM4 is NewCura's image capture client. It runs on a capture computer at the endoscopy tower and records HD stills and MPEG-4 video from the scope's video processor or camera.
Which scopes and cameras does EM4 work with?
Any visible-light device with a video output. Supported Fujifilm, Olympus and PENTAX Medical processors also get a bi-directional RS232 link for demographics, scope serial detection and triggers. Other devices use a foot pedal or the camera's trigger. See the equipment list →
Can EM4 be used without EMS?
Yes. EM4 can send images straight to a PACS, a VNA or Epic Gallery, and it's sold on its own.
What video format does EM4 record?
MPEG-4.
Does EM4 detect which scope was used?
On supported processors, yes. EM4 reads the scope serial number over the RS232 link, and that data can be shared with ScopeCycle®.
How is EM4 priced?
Quoted per project, by number of capture stations and rooms. How pricing works →
